World Cup Race 5 – St Moritz, Switzerland
Team Minichiello/Gunn
Team Minichiello secured their third podium finish of the season as they took 3rd place in the World Cup race in St. Moritz, Switzerland on the 15th of January. Following the cancellation of December’s race in Cesana, Italy, this race was the scheduled make up race to replace it.
After a nearly flawless run in the first heat the team was placed joint 1st, level with World and Olympic champions Germany 1, driven by Sandra Kiriasis. Germany 2, driven by Cathleen Martini were in 3rd place, one tenth of a second back. The start time on the first heat was 6.01, the 10th best of the run.
On the second run GB1 improved their start by three hundredths to rank 8th fastest starters of the second heat. Martini of Germany 2 pulled out the fastest run of the day to move ahead of GB1. Kiriasis of Germany 1 also had another excellent drive and Team Minichiello finished in 3rd place. Another great team performance, keeping the team in 5th place on the World Cup rankings and closing the gap to the teams in 3rd and 4th.
